Maintenance costs and operation is one of the main cost factors of a wind turbine and can make up to 40% of total cost. Rotor blade maintenance alone can account for up to one fifth. The majority of these costs can be traced back to missing or insufficient condition maintenance solutions. Currently the majority of rotor blade maintenance is carried out by industrial climbers who inspect and, if necessary, repair rotor blades. The largest international wind turbine manufacturers emphasize the need for continuous condition monitoring systems, especially for rotor blades.
eoIACC is the first on- blade continuous condition maintenance sensor based on sensors distributed over the rotor blade surface, especially on the blade tips.
